Quadrivalent seasonal flu vaccine (split virion, inactivated) 2023 Southern Hemisphere strains
Indications/Uses
Active immunisation of adults & childn ≥6 mth of age for the prevention of flu disease caused by flu virus types A & B contained in the vaccine.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM 0.5 mL single inj in deltoid or anterolateral thigh. Childn 6 mth to <9 yr who have not been previously vaccinated Administer 2nd dose of 0.5 mL after at least a 4 wk interval.
Special Precautions
Postpone vaccination in patients w/ acute severe febrile illness. Not effective against all possible strains of flu virus. Adequate immune response may not be elicited in patients w/ immunodeficiency or receiving immunosuppressive treatment. Do not administer intravascularly. Patients w/ thrombocytopenia or any coagulation disorder. Syncope (fainting) may occur. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Myalgia, inj site pain, fatigue. Headache, GI symptoms (including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea &/or abdominal pain), sweating, arthralgia, inj site redness or swelling, shivering, fever & inj site induration.
Drug Interactions
False +ve ELISA serologic tests for HIV-1, hepatitis C & HTLV-1 may occur.
